Billings Bridge Senior Activity Centre

We are a lively, active group that provides a variety of activities for seniors. Our most popular activities include the Walking Club (Walking is an excellent way to prevent cardiovascular diseases and future cardiac events. Studies have shown that walking 2.5 hours per week (30 minutes, 5 days per week) cuts the risk of developing cardiovascular and coronary heart diseases by 50%), Knit Wits Knitting Club, a Social Club and Potluck Parties. We also operate a Library and Games Room to keep you busy. The Billings Bridge Senior Activity Centre hosts invited guest speakers and fitness classes. Members attend the activities that appeal to them the most. A mosaic of cultural experiences awaits you.

The club started more than 25 years ago at the Billings Bridge Shopping Centre as a way to promote social interaction and reduce isolation among seniors. The group keeps active through walking and knitting, and has donated much of its products to those in need. Wool blankets have been made for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and local retirement residences. Members have also knit hats, scarves and mittens for the Ottawa Snowsuit Fund.

The Billings Bridge Pacesetters Walking Club has supported the University of Ottawa on studies of the health benefits of walking and knitting for older individuals with osteoarthritis. The studies were conducted by Dr. Lucie Brosseau and found that knitting helped reduce osteoarthritis pain significantly.

The Billings Bridge Senior Activity Centre consists of many members. As a social group for seniors of all ages, our club is in an expansion mode and is targeting others to join our group.

There is an executive team who meet regularly to ensure the BB Senior Activity Centre needs are addressed.

Many people in the BB Senior Activity Centre have continued their friendships with members over an extensive period. New friendships have made the group attractive to new members. The social activities we share encourage everyone in our group to learn new skills, participate in events they might not normally attend, and most of all, have fun!

Events are scheduled during the week, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 10 am. The mall circuit is 1km long so you will get a good work out.

It is our intention to function as a welcoming social group for everyone. All events are held in a safe, supportive environment. We welcome members of all ages.

Come out and join us today! 😊
